Filing a complaint against a medical professional if you have been treated unethically or illegally:

Unfortunately infants in the hospital may sometimes be given formula against the wishes of their parents, and parents are not always fully informed as to what the staff feeds their infants.  Similarly, women have sometimes had repeat cesareans scheduled for them despite repeatedly telling their doctors that they do not give their consent.

It is important that doctors and other medical professionals understand the seriousness of their actions.  One way to make your voice heard is to file a complaint against their license.  The licensing board may not respond to only one complaint, but they do have the power to revoke a medical professional's license.  Please take the time to make your voice heard.

This website includes a directory of license numbers for medical professionals as well as a form for registering a complaint.  The form can be printed and then mailed or faxed to the licensing board.  For maximum impact do include why a particular professional's actions have been detrimental to you and your baby. You might describe nipple confusion and breastfeeding difficulties resulting from negligent or deceptive practices in the hospital, and consider including your baby's hospital charts that list formula feedings that you did not authorize.

Complaints may be submitted to the Enforcement Division, either in person or anonymously, in writing, by telephone, by fax, or by email.
